Developing an understanding of the Role of Women in Zambia Baptist Association

In Christianity both evangelical and non-evangelical denominations continue to grapple with the roles women should play in church particularly roles to do with leadership. The divisive nature of this issue demands that association and local churches reflect on the subject matter biblically. It is with this in view that this mini-thesis is an effort to reflect on what the role of women in the Zambia Baptist Association (ZBA).The introduction of the mini-thesis provides the objective, background, brief literature and design of the research. The focus of the mini-thesis is to describe the practices and beliefs that influence the ministry of women in the association. It employs an empirical analysis of the practices in ZBA with respect to women in ministry. The objective is to seek understanding of the beliefs that are in operation, which give rise to the practices. It an attempt to describe what is happening and why it is happening. The research is descriptive as opposed to prescriptive. An outline of the four major positions on the roles in ministry is briefly explored in the literature section. The study has also surveyed the major biblical passages which discuss roles of women in the life the church This discussion has endeavoured to lay out what the findings mean regarding to the role of women in the ZBA, and hopes that relevant and helpful steps will be taken in seeking to enhance the biblical role of women in the ZBA. The results of the research suggest that the roles of women in the ZBA are not harmonious. The study as a matter of necessity has proposed that the association through various methods and stake holders addresses the disharmony as good organization demands and effectiveness in ministry requires.
