Aunque en general se postula que elcreyente parte para estar con Cristo, sin embargo,existemucha confusión respecto al cómo y al cuándo se producirá tal acontecimiento. La presente investigación analiza las diferentes declaraciones doctrinales relativas alo que se ha definido como el «estado intermedio»(espacio o estado en el que se encontrarían los fallecidos enCristo); yasea sin cuerpo, ya enun estado de dormición,o definitivamente en una situación que se considera de victoria,pero indefinida. Y ante tal doctrina,sepostula una proposición «cesacionista», argumentándoseque el «estado intermedio»sí que existió, pero que dejó de ser,a partir de la resurrección de Cristo,hecho central y fundamental de la realidad cristiana.
