Prosperity Theology as a Challenge to the Foursquare Teachings with Special Reference to AFM House of Glory and Kwadeda Assemblies In Pietermaritzburg, Kwazulu-Natal, RSA: Towards a Biblical Response - Johannesburg South African Theological Seminary 2021 - 88 PDF A4 Abstract, TOC

The aim of this thesis is to conduct a biblical and theological analysis of prosperity theology’s impact amongst the AFM House of glory and KwaDeda in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, RSA. The main problem is seeking ways of effectively responding to the biblical problems raised by prosperity theology in the AFM amongst isiZulu-speaking members in Pietermaritzburg. In attempting to respond to the main research question, this thesis investigates prosperity theology and its proponents and attempts to reflect on the challenge posed by the proclamation of prosperity theology. This covered the scope of the background information, which included the origin, proponents, and theological emphasis of prosperity theology. As well as the background and teaching of the Foursquare, the study examines certain biblical passages that are commonly used by proponents of prosperity theology such as Kenyon, Hagin, and Copeland. The manner in which it will be conducted will be using hermeneutical and exegetical principles to critique prosperity theology in order to derive what the Scriptures meant by these biblical passages. Certain practical deviances and erroneous hermeneutical conclusions that prosperity preachers may have arrived at are highlighted. Furthermore, a careful examination of how the AFM House of Glory and KwaDeda assemblies understand the Foursquare teaching was presented by investigating the origins of the major teachings of AFM House of Glory and KwaDeda and AFM of SA. A comparison and contrast of the AFM teachings and the prosperity theology are also presented. Lastly, the research reflects on prosperity theology and the AFM Foursquare teachings by articulating an AFM response to the challenges of prosperity theology, but also by reaffirming the AFM foundational Foursquare teaching as the counterattack against the abuse and the excess of prosperity teaching.
